Annual lantern processionThe towns and villages surrounding Doe Wood Lodges offer something for all ages to enjoy. 

The Coronation Hall
Ulverston's major civic and social centre. As well as a programme of touring groups, artistes and orchestras, the Coronation Hall plays host to Ulverston's festivals including the Music Festival, Folklore Festival and Comedy Festival.

Made in Cumbria Markets
For food lovers in search of fine local produce a food fair operates on the third Saturday of every month organised by ‘Made in Cumbria’ in association with the regular farmer’s market.

Lanternhouse
Developed with funding from the National Lottery through the Arts Council of England as an international centre to research celebratory arts, Lanternhouse offers exhibitions, installations, workshops and seminars throughout the year.

Laurel and Hardy Museum
Ulverston was the birthplace of Stan Laurel, and fans come from all over the world to visit the Laurel and Hardy museum.

Swarthmoor Hall
George Fox, the founder of The Society of Friends (Quakers) lived at Swarthmoor Hall (at that time spelt 'Swarthmore Hall') on the Western outskirts of the town. The Quakers' influence spread from Ulverston throughout the world.

Conishead Priory
Mahayana Buddhism, Conishead Priory Manjushri Centre to the south of the town. The publishing company Tharpa, is a major international and multilingual publisher of Buddhist books, has its headquarters in Ulverston.

Hoad monument
Hoad Monument is Ulverston’s most famous landmark. Erected in 1850 upon Hoad Hill, it commemorates Sir John Barrow, a founder member of the Royal Geographical Society and an intrepid explorer. The Hoad Monument - also sometimes referred to as the Sir John Barrow Monument - is a replica of Eddystone Lighthouse. It is open to the public during the summer, if the flag is flying, and is well worth a visit if only for the magnificent views of Morecambe Bay and the Lake District.

Cumbria Crystal
Ulverston is the headquarters of Cumbria Crystal based at the Lakes Glass Centre. The Lakes Glass centre offers a unique opportunity to visit two working glass factories in one convenient location. Cumbria Crystal produces high quality full lead crystal tableware and giftware whilst Heron Glass specialises in coloured art glass and lighting. Both have their own factory shop with products at discounted prices. Together they offer the widest range of glassware in the region. Also, visit The Lighthouse Restaurant & Café for a warm welcome and a varied menu of freshly prepared food.

Dalton Castle
Dalton Castle is a 14th-century tower in the main street of the town of Dalton-in-Furness on the edge of the Lake District National Park. It houses a local exhibition by the Friends of Dalton Castle and a display about the painter George Romney, who was a native of Dalton. The castle was built by the Abbot of Furness and has walls that are six feet thick. Dalton Castle has an interesting history and can be viewed on Saturday afternoons in the summer.

South Lakes Wild Animal Park
Prepare to be truly amazed! You will not experience anything like this anywhere else in the UK. At South Lakes Wild Animal Park you can watch the tigers climb 20 feet for their dinner, feed giraffes in the summer months, meet a snake, watch the penguins being fed, walk in an area where condors and vultures fly free, and much, much more. There is a large restaurant overlooking the African Savannah and Wild Things shopping experience, as well as ample walkways and viewpoints.

Gleaston Water Mill
Historic water corn mill, with impressive machinery. Dusty Miller's teashop, Pig's Whisper country store, observation beehive and training apiary.

Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway
Steam trains running a seasonal daily service from Haverthwaite to Lakeside via the Leven valley. Licensed restaurant, engine sheds, shop, picnic area

Fell Foot Park
Discover this lakeshore Victorian park on the east shore of Windermere. Just the place for families to enjoy access to Windermere with picnic areas, boat hire and tea room.
